Introduction

After defining the custom submission steps, you then define the forms to be used for your custom submission steps.

Step 1 - Define the custom form

Edit the "input-forms.xml" file:

nano $HOME/source/dspace/config/input-forms.xml

For example:

 <form-map>
   <name-map collection-handle="default" form-name="traditional" />
   <name-map collection-handle="99999.1/2170" form-name="research" />
   <name-map collection-handle="99999.1/2171" form-name="research" />
   <name-map collection-handle="99999.1/2172" form-name="research" />
   <name-map collection-handle="99999.1/2173" form-name="research" />
   <name-map collection-handle="99999.1/2174" form-name="research" />
   <name-map collection-handle="99999.1/2175" form-name="research" />
   <name-map collection-handle="99999.1/2176" form-name="research" />
   <name-map collection-handle="99999.1/2177" form-name="research" />
   <name-map collection-handle="99999.1/2178" form-name="research" />
   <name-map collection-handle="99999.1/2179" form-name="research" />
 </form-map>

Step 2 - Design the custom form

This is where you define which dublin core elements are used per page per input field and in what order the input fields appear on the form.

Input fields have attributes, see example below and the notes at the bottom of this wiki page.

See example below:

   <form name="research">
     <page number="1">

       <!-- Input title of item -->
       <field>
         <dc-schema>dc</dc-schema>

         <dc-qualifier></dc-qualifier>
         <repeatable>true</repeatable>
         <label>Title</label>
         <input-type>onebox</input-type>
         <hint>Enter the main title of the item.</hint>
         <required>Please enter a main title for this item. For a title in another language, click the "Add" button and submit.</required>
       </field>

         <required>Please submit an author for this item.</required>

       <!-- Input academic department (custom dc field used) -->

         <repeatable>true</repeatable>
         <label>Department</label>

   </form>

Input Fields Notes

<repeatable>

Setting the element to “true” creates an “Add more” button, which allows you to add multiple values into that particular field.

<vocabulary>

This is optional.

It allows you to specify the controlled vocabulary that this field should select its values from.

This field also has an optional closed attribute.

If closed is set to true, a user can only select values from the controlled vocabulary.

By default, closed is set to false, which allows a user to also enter in free text if he/she chooses.

For example:

<vocabulary closed=”true”>srsc</vocabulary>

The name of the controlled vocabulary must correspond to the name of the XML file (without “.xml”) which contains the vocabulary.

So srsc references the vocabulary specified in the file located at:

$HOME/source/config/controlled-vocabularies/srsc.xml.

<input-type>

Valid input types are:

  • “date”
  • “name” (two text boxes, labeled last and first name)
  • “onebox” (a one-line textbox)
  • “twobox” (two textboxes on a single line)
  • “dropdown” (for which you must specify a value-pairs-name attribute referring to the <value-pairs> list of allowed values.
  • “qualdrop_value” (a textbox, which is preceded by a “qualifying” dropdown of values. Requires a value-pairs-name attribute, similar to “dropdown”. Also requires <repeatable> is set to “true”)
  • “textarea”

<required>

Contains the textual hint displayed to the submitter about why the field is required. Leave it empty for optional fields.

Definition of <value-pairs>

To maintain uniformity of definitions for certain input fields it is possible to create custom lists to be used with a custom field.

For example, we created a custom list for academic departments. See example below.

   <value-pairs value-pairs-name="common_departments" dc-term="description">
