The library has upgraded the disk storage capacity on SUNScholar from 0.5TB to 5TB, a ten fold or 1000% increase, making it possible to host data sets that were, and are used for supporting research publications.

The what, why and how of data management planning

John Scally - Research Data Management in the Library

Data Curation

For the moment data curation is the sole responsibility of the researcher until the library can properly resource itself to support this task on behalf of researchers.

The data sets, as normalised digital files/bitstreams, can be added when doing the initial new publication submission or can be added retroactively to existing publications.

In addition, details of experimental methods used to gather and normalise the data for future use and reuse can be submitted with the data sets.

Please see the details below for either option.

New Publications

When submitting a new publication, make sure to add ALL the normalised digital files/bitstreams that represent the publication data set for the publication currently being submitted.

There is nothing special to do, only make sure when asked to upload files/bitstreams, that you upload all the related files/bitstreams and give them a meaningful description.

Existing Publications

The retroactive submission of research publication data will be made available soon. The library is working on a workflow that is acceptable to all.

Please check here regularly for news about this service availability or else send an email to our library director, Ellen Tise ( to enquire.
