Why we used an Ubuntu server
In order to preserve the digital research record of the University, common sense demands that an open and interoperable system be used.
The internet itself is a perfect example of a technological system that has survived more than twenty years, principally because it was designed and constructed using open standards and software.
Using the internet as an example, SUNScholar has been built and preserved using the same principles applied for the internet.
Below are links to Wikipedia articles detailing some of the principles and standards used.
