Introduction

Identifying each article/item using machine-readable identifiers for the associated authors etc.. is critical for accurately measuring research outputs.

The HANDLE identifies the research item in DSpace, the ORCID identifies the researcher, the DOI identifies the bitstream and Altmetrics displays the social impact.

Together all of these services help to ensure very long term electronic citation persistence.
