Request printing credits online

IMPORTANT: Students are required to manage their own printing account


Log onto SUNStudent: https://student.sun.ac.za

  1. On the left side of the screen select: Requests
  2. In the opened window, click on: All Requests
  3. For a new service request, click on the Raise Request button.
  4. In the pop-up window, click on: Printing Quota
  5. On the General Request screen, select Printing Services in the Request Category field.
  6. Enter an Amount for printing services and click on Upload & Submit
  7. In the Documents screen that opens, click on: Save

A successful service request for printing will reflect on your student account.

Note: Print fees ar​​e available on the University's IT Service catalogue.




View your available printing credits online

IMPORTANT: Students are required to manage their own printing account

  • Available amount:' Shows the amount that is available for print.
  • Reserved amount: Shows the amount currently block.


If your available print credits remain under 'Reserved' after successfully logging out of the safecom printer, follow the procedures below:

  1. Log a service request to Library IT or to SU IT Service Desk' for the reset of your own reserved print credits.
  2. You will receive an email confirming that your reserved print credits have been successfully reset as requested.


  • IMPORTANT: Once you logged onto any Safecom printer, make sure to LOGOUT to prevent 'Reserved credits' block (resulting in 'Credits too low' fault message).




How do I print?

Print from a computer

  • Sign-On to any network computer in the library with your SU campus Username (e.g 12345678) and Password.
  • Once successfully login in, select the print function from your application.
  • Select the correct printer from the list of printers, e.g,: i) STB_PRINT_Q01 on stbsc03.stb.sun.ac.za or STB_PRINT_Q01 on stbsc05.stb.sun.ac.za
  • Ensure the proper print options (double-sided or one-sided) are selected for your print job. (The default setting on print server is double-sided).
  • Press the "Print" or "OK" button to send your print job to the campus print server.


How to release your print jobs at a printer with your Student Card

  • To release your print job for printing, go to the nearest Safecom printer and LOGIN (tap your SU Student Card)..
  • Your network username will appear on the printer screen once you have successfully logged into the print server.
  • On the print screen, select Pull Print OR pick a specific Print Job to be printed.
  • IMPORTANT: Once you logged onto any Safecom printer, make sure to LOGOUT to prevent 'Reserved credits' block (resulting in 'Credits too low' fault message).


If you do not have your Student Card, login manually at a printer

  • Go to the nearest library SAFECOM printer.
  • Press the 'home' button to active the printer screen.
  • First press the Setting icon (icon on the top, far left hand side) and change the 'Local Drive' setting to ' Safecom '
  • The 'Sign in' screen will now appear.
  • Type in your Username *(You must use your standard username, e.g. 1234567 - NOT your @sun.ac.za email-account credentials).
  • The 'Domain' option: STB
  • Type in your Password.
  • Once successfully logged in, release your documents for print




PRINTING TIPS!

How to print ONE sided

  • Select Print
  • Click on Properties (Top left corner of the print box)
  • Click Finishing
  • Untick: Print both sides
  • Select OK
  • Select OK


How to print in COLOR

  • Select Print
  • Click on Properties (Top left corner of the print box)'
  • Under the 'Color tab', untick Grey scale option


Printing costs?

The University's Printing fees may change though out the year. It is updated and available on the University's IT Service catalogue.


Printing problems?

  • If you experience a problem to print a online document, Download and Save the document which you want to print on your own sunstorage network space or to your Flashdisk, and Open from the Saved location and click the Print option.
  • ALWAYS do a Print, Preview (and check for any Page-breaks which can resulted in blank print pages) before you press Print.
