Load Printing Money

Students/Staff are required to access the User Administration site to manage their printing account:

Students

  • Click "Sign on" and enter your username and password when prompted.
  • Choose Load Printing Money from Student Account

Note: Printing requests will not be loaded immediately, but you will receive an e-mail confirmation upon activation.

*Note: Quotas can still be topped up by paying at the cashiers at Student Fees in Admin A. Students at Tygerberg can pay at the cashiers at the Clinical Building.      


Staff

  • Click "Sign on" and enter your username and password when prompted.
  • Choose: Load Printing Quota from Cost Centre

Note: The print credit request will be sent to the cost center manager of your department for approval. Funds will only be transferred to your account after approval. You will receive an email notification upon transfer approval.




View Printing Balances

Students are required to access the User Administration site to manage their printing account:

  • Click "Sign on" and enter your username and password when prompted.
  • Choose View Printing Balances.
  • Available balance: Shows the amount that is actually available for printing.


Reserved balances:
  • Shows the amount currently reserved on your student account. When you release a document for printing, the printer reserves all money balances until the document has finished printing. If for some reason the printing does not finish the balance might stay reserved, resulting in a printer fault message "Credits too low".


How to prevent Reserved balances?:
  • Please make sure you LOGOUT before logging onto a different safecom printer.
  • IT HELP?: If your print credits are still under 'Reserved' after you successfully logged out, Log a request to Library ICT and request Reset reserved print credits.




View Pending Print Jobs/Transactions

  • To View the print jobs what you have sent to the Safecom print server but have NOT printed yet, select the Documents link.
  • To View your print transactions, select the Transactions link; this shows the date, time and total cost of each job.
  • To Delete pending print jobs, select the Documents link. Mark the requested print job/s you want to delete by clicking on the box to the left of each job, then click on the Delete button near the top right portion of the screen. Select OK when prompted and the job will be deleted instantly. Note: You can only delete jobs that are not currently being printed; jobs in the process of being printed cannot be deleted.




How do I print?

Print from a computer

  • Sign-On to any network computer in the library with your SU campus Username (e.g 12345678) and Password.
  • Once successfully login in, select the print function from your application.
  • Select the correct printer from the list of printers, e.g,: i) STB_PRINT_Q01 on stbsc03.stb.sun.ac.za or STB_PRINT_Q01 on stbsc05.stb.sun.ac.za
  • Ensure the proper print options (double-sided or one-sided) are selected for your print job. (The default setting on print server is double-sided).
  • Press the "Print" or "OK" button to send your print job to the campus print server.


How to release your print jobs at a printer with your Student Card

  • To release your print job for printing, go to the nearest Safecom printer and LOGIN (tap your SU Student Card)..</font?
  • Your network username will appear on the printer screen once you have successfully logged into the print server.
  • On the print screen, select Pull Print OR pick a specific Print Job to be printed.
  • IMPORTANT: Once you logged onto any Safecom printer, make sure to LOGOUT to prevent 'Reserved credits' block (resulting in 'Credits too low' fault message).


If you do not have your Student Card, login manually at a printer

  • Go to the nearest library SAFECOM printer.
  • Press the 'home' button to active the printer screen.
  • First press the Setting icon (icon on the top, far left hand side) and change the 'Local Drive' setting to ' Safecom '
  • The 'Sign in' screen will now appear.
  • Type in your Username *(You must use your standard username, e.g. 1234567 - NOT your @sun.ac.za email-account credentials).
  • The 'Domain' option: STB
  • Type in your Password.
  • Once successfully logged in, release your documents for print





PRINTING TIPS!

How to print ONE sided

  • Select Print
  • Click on Properties (Top left corner of the print box)
  • Click Finishing
  • Untick: Print both sides
  • Select OK
  • Select OK


How to print in COLOR

  • Select Print
  • Click on Properties (Top left corner of the print box)'
  • Under the 'Color tab', untick Grey scale option


Printing costs?

The University's Printing fees may change though out the year. It is updated and available on the University's IT Service catalogue.


Printing problems?

  • If you experience a problem to print a online document, Download and Save the document which you want to print on your own sunstorage network space or to your Flashdisk, and Open from the Saved location and click the Print option.
  • ALWAYS do a Print, Preview (and check for any Page-breaks which can resulted in blank print pages) before you press Print.
