Brief Statement of Research Interests
Doctoral qualification in public and development management with specialisation in policy process management, public sector performance management and human resource management and development. Strong interest in teaching methodologies ranging from in-class facilitation to contemporary electronic interface interactions. Well-developed communication, research, writing and organisation skills. Extensive experience in the applying public management theory to solve problems in practice in the public sector at all spheres, as well as in utilising practice case studies to enhancing teaching and the development of students for better understanding of the challenges of the public sector. Versatile, adaptable and energetic.

Core functions entail designing, preparing and compiling course/subject content for undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in the public and development management discipline. Present courses/subjects/modules at undergraduate and post-graduate level. Design, compile and conduct assessment frameworks for the above courses. Prepare, design, develop and coordinate various short courses within the public and development management discipline. Supervise post-graduate research at Masters level. Design, develop and conduct research projects within the public and development management discipline.
School of Public Management and Planning, Stellenbosch University : Coordinator: Teaching Development and Support - April 2004 – August 2008
Coordinates the web-based teaching, plagiarism prevention and SMS communication support programmes of the School. Provides administrative support to academic staff, including amongst others yearbook changes, changes to marketing material and the prospectus, support and coordination of timetables, classroom allocations, assessment (test and exam) material, work division, departmental evaluation and undergraduate and postgraduate course marks. Teaches management, development and policy subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Acts as internal moderator for other modules. Study leader, internal and external examiner to MA/MPA candidates. Research interests include public policy outcomes, local government, public sector performance management, local economic development, human resource management, and community development. Develop, facilitate, manage and assess accredited courses in policy design and management, public sector management, performance management and monitoring and evaluation to delegates from all government spheres. Partake in consultancy projects to public sector organisations on ad hoc basis.

School of Public Management and Planning, Stellenbosch University - Teaching assistant - January 2002 – December 2002
- Appointed as Teaching Assistant in the School of Public Management and Planning. General duties comprised the assistance to lecturers with regard to: Presentation and facilitation of undergraduate classes, including the preparation of training material; presentation of classes; compilation of exam/test papers; evaluation of written and oral assignments; tests and presentations; and dealing with student enquiries.
- Research with regard to the development of a practical manual to facilitate training courses in public management.
- Development and coordination of the uploading of course information, important documents and evaluation tools on WebCT to enhance the distance education initiative of the School.
School of Public Management and Planning, Stellenbosch University - Research Team Member - November 2001 – December 2001
Formed part of comparative analysis research group studying various levels of government (local, federal/provincial, and state/national) of Germany’s federal and South Africa’s centralised system of government. The foundation for the study was based on the South African government’s inclination to a federal system of government as well as the analogous dissolution in both South African and German societies, due to their distinctive histories. Research was conducted with the University of Potsdam (Germany) and the University of Berlin (Germany).
Department of Water Affairs and Forestry - Internship - June 2001
Completed a two-week internship in the Human Resource Department of the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (Bellville office).
